My journal on web development

Google leaks #1

Google Headquarters

Google constantly updates its search algorithm to, in their view, improve search results quality.

Web developers and SEO experts therefore need to keep up-to-date with these developments, because these updates usually have an effect on the organic search result rankings of websites.

Google communicates these changes through their developers website; however, in the Spring of 2024, 1400 pages of classified documents were leaked on an online platform.

What they show is that organic search favours established brands over small businesses, and Google results show a clear bias towards big media companies.

This is of course disappointing news for my clients and I, as we are young, small and independent sites with not a powerful brand (yet).

Keyword research

Getting it right

“Keywords” are the words and phrases that we type into the search bars of search engines such as Google or Bing when they want to look for certain information or products.

By strategically integrating relevant (meaningful) keywords into website content, meta tags, and headers, I can increase the chance of making your website appear high in search results, attracting more visitors to your site.

With certain tools I use, I will help you discover the most popular and relevant keywords in your niche, and implement it into your website content. The key to a successful SEO campaign is to choose keywords that have a high search volume but low competition. For example, let’s say you’re a leatherware designer and own a shop in Berlin, keyword prase could be “handmade leatherware in Berlin.” These types of keywords are excellent for targeting specific customer queries.

Search trends change – what works today might not be effective tomorrow, especially after major Google algorithm updates. Periodically review and adjust your keywords to ensure your content remains relevant and visible in search engine results.
